I was soo excited to order a wonderful set of pots and pans. They got their first run tonight with a tilapia and chili dish. It went well, the learning curve on not burning the onions was steep. They look very nice and have a lovely sheen to them. I’m giving it a 3 stars instead of 5 because as I opened them I discovered 2 of them have nicks and scratches in them. Also, because I have an electric coil stove and if you even slightly move the pan on the burner it scratches the bottom.

I agonized about getting a cookset, having previously relied on the old wisdom of only buying separate pieces as you need them. In this case, I wanted something complete for my wife, so started with this set. I have a long history of buying Calphalon’s pro aluminum series, so I did some research on moving to stainless steel.
I ended up returning this specific set to get a different kit that better fit our needs, but I can talk to the quality of these pieces – it’s outstanding! Moving to stainless takes some getting used to, and we did end up buying a ceramic coated pan for things like eggs and toasted cheese. But everything else is marvelous. The fit and finish are excellent, and I’m very happy with the durability, heat distribution, and grip. The glass tops can be a bit of a pain to keep clean, but it’s worth the extra few seconds to polish them after use and remove spots or fingerprints. If you have hard water issues, be certain to dry them immediately and not let the water evaporate.

So far, I’ve put them through their paces in terms of heat and acidity, and there’s not a mark on them. We did have some discoloration early on, but a few minutes with Barkeeper’s Friend cleared that up (use the Blue scotchbright, not green or red; that avoids scratching). We’ve also let a few pans sit for a couple of days and still had a remarkably easy cleanup.

I’m pretty biased towards Calphalon, and have been using them for almost 30 years. I’m glad I stuck with them 🙂

We all have had kitchen mishaps/nightmares that we chuckle about, and rarely do we let anyone outside the home know about them, but here goes.

I received this set of pots one year ago, and I have put them through a testing regime that even Calphalon would cringe at – and would rightly void any warranty on. Before I start this story you should know I have a Wolf stove – restaurant grade, so it puts our more heat than the normal home stove and has an extreme ventilation system (thank goodness).

First disaster – One dinner I placed some sauce in a pot to thicken and then we had a crisis happened at the back of our property that made us rush out of the house to address – forgetting the pots on the stove. Six hours later we returned home – the sauce was gone and charcoal remained at the bottom of the pan. I thought the pot was shot. A little Bar Keepers and elbow grease and (to my amazement) the pot was as good as new.

Second disaster – both my hubby and I were exhausted from work and put some food on to boil (I use a Foodsaver so it’s the ol’ `boil in a bag’ meal bag in those instances), but we both fell asleep waiting for dinner. At 3AM when I woke up (Hubby still snoring) the water was long gone in the pan and the bag had turned to charcoal – way beyond the melted bag stage – try `fused to the pan’ stage. OK, the pot is a goner – nope, with elbow grease and Bar Keepers as good as new.
